Accessing Newsgroups in Outlook Express:
Another feature in Outlook Express provides users with the capability of accessing messages from their favorite newsgroups so they can keep up on what's current in their field, or find out more information about things that interest them such as hobbies. To create your newsgroup settings, click on the Tools Menu in the menu bar, and then select Accounts.

At this point, your Internet Accounts window will appear with the following tabs: All, Mail, News, and Directory Service. For the purpose of this portion of the tutorial click on the News tab, click the Add Button, and select News. Now, our old familiar friend, the Internet Connection Wizard, will appear again to assist you in setting up your news configuration.

Using The Internet Connection Wizard To Access Newsgroups:
The first time you attempt to create your newsgroup settings in Outlook Express, it will bring up the Internet Connection Wizard, which is a series of screens where Outlook Express asks you how do you want your news setup configured.

This wizard is a quick way of having your news setup without having to go through the cumbersome details of learning how setting it up manually. Each screen will consist of a dialog box of some form with four buttons: Back, Next, Cancel, and Finish.

These screens will ask the following in order:

1.) What name will you be using to identify yourself when you are posting a message to a newsgroup? Here you would type in your name, as you would like it to appear.

2.) What e-mail address will you be using for people in the newsgroup can reply to? Here you would type in your e-mail address.

3.) What NNTP or news server will you be using? Here you will type in the news servers that have been assigned to you for accessing your newsgroup. See your ISP's home page or http://www.rci.rutgers.edu for help.

Following each of the questions, you will click the Next button. If you need to go back to a particular portion of the wizard, click the Back button. When you are finished answering the above questions, click the Finish button. If you would like to exit before finishing, click Cancel.

Configuring News In Outlook Express Manually:
If you exited the Internet Connection Wizard, and you need to set up your e-mail configuration, you can still do it manually. Just follow these steps:

1.) Click on the Tools Menu.
2.) Click Accounts.
3.) Look for the account name that has your news configuration settings, and select it.
4.) Click Properties.

At this point, you will have a window appear with the properties of your e-mail settings. The first screen, which is under the General tab, contains user information such as your Name and Reply to address, which you provided in your Internet Connection Wizard setup. Fill in the fields on this screen, and then click the Server tab.

Under the Server tab, you will see the News server information as well as the Account information that you were asked to fill in during your Internet Connection Wizard setup. One difference between this tab, and the Servers tab used in configuring e-mail is that this window has a checkbox for those who need to provide user and password information. If any of this information is blank, fill it in with the server and account information that has been provided to you. Then click the OK button.

There are two other tabs in your news settings window: Connection, and Advanced. The Connection tab is for setting up a connection to your news via a LAN, or dial-up. Advanced is for such things as how you want to have your news delivered and formatted.
